Project

Integrated Immunization and PHC for Enteric Pathogen Control

The project aimed to improve key maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) practices, care seeking behaviours, immunization coverage, nutritional status and community knowledge, in high‐risk union council of Peshawar, Lakki Marwat and Quetta where health practices, immunization coverage and health infrastructure are suboptimal.

The intervention is focusing on community engagement and social mobilization; mobile health teams for MNCH services especially immunization; engagement of private sector for improvement of MNCH services and immunization coverage. The project improved the indicators of antenatal care, postnatal care, WASH practices, birth registration, nutrition needs and childhood immunizations.

The results and lessons learnt from the proposed pilot will be scaled up in subsequent stages and will go long way in reducing the maternal and child mortality and morbidity.

The project also assessed the feasibility of adopting an electronic birth and immunization registry at vaccination centers and link with household data of the same geographic areas.

With the support of AKU, the project is developing a health, nutrition and immunization app, Sehat Nishani, which tracks vaccinators’ immunization performance by generating real‐time data, with GPS tracking of vaccinator visits, digital immunization records and record of missed children.
